A George Wallace Memory
Back in May 1972, my Grandmother was in Holy Cross Hospital in Wheaton Maryland. It was orthopedic related.
On May 15, while campaigning (he was running against, Hubert Humphrey in the Democratic primary - running on what could arguably be called an anti racial integration platform) in Laurel, Maryland, Governor Wallace was shot four times and brought to Holy Cross Hospital.
We were visiting my grandmother later that month (after I came home from college). I told her that George Wallace was in the same hospital. Grandma didn't follow politics. She had been trying to get up some card entertainment in the hospital and asked, "Does he play bridge?"
