My father and Bobby Mitchell

Many years ago, in the 1960s (but I'm not sure when in the 60s), I went to an event, possibly a Bnai Brith event, in which the speaker of honor was Bobby Mitchell. Bobby Mitchell was a receiver for the Washington Redskins. I remember that the first question to Mr. Mitchell was about his official biog which had his height as 6'. He was obviously shorter than that. He responded that the 6' figure was his playing height - which got a lot of laughs. He took a lot of questions. My father asked this question:

"Mr. Mitchell, to what to you attribute the growing popularity of pro football?"

Mitchell's answer was, "Violence - people love that."

It was a good answer.

I thought of that earlier this week. There were a number of speakers at a conference I was attending. One of the questions (not by me) was worded very similarly to the one my father asked 40 years ago. ¶ 9:20 PM
