More old pictures PJW and MHW and LLW
This image was in the same album as my Bar Mitzvah pictures. It shows Peter and Lillian in Rockefeller Square in New York City. I think it was taken in the 1960s ..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I think this was during our family visit to NYC during the World's Fair but I'm not sure.
This image was also in the same album as my Bar Mitzah pictures. It is me about the time of my birth in April 1950. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. sort of smiling
Again an image from that album. It is of Peter. I estimate it was taken in the early 1930s. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. I really like the glasses. In the movie "Dr. Zivago, one of protagonists, Strelnikov, has similar glasses.
More pictures from the 1960s some bar mitzvah
For some reason I particularly liked to fool around in the back yard with golf instruments. The image is taken after the Bar Mitzvah celebration but I apparently am still wearing really nice clothes. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. I think the thin guy in the deep background is David Goldstein.
This image is a list of the presents I received at or about my Bar Mitzvah celebration. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. I still have some of them. The book "Rome and Jerusalem" was somewhat famous at the time being a precusor of the work of Herzl. I read it a few years ago and realize some of the problematic parts of "Rome..". For example, it is calls all the different ethnicities of Europe as individual races.
Pictures from the 60s. M's bar mitzvah
First image is of Peter and Lillian and Irwin and Martin and George and Margaret (Peter's parents) and a bar mitzvah cake. ..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Pretty sure there was chocolate cake under the frosting or I wouldn't have looked happy.
This is letter, in French, I received from my great Uncle Bobby who lived in Belgium at the time of my bar mitzvah. ...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
My grandmother Margaret is receiving a bunch of 'thanks' and 'congratulations' from her friends. As I recall people were impressed that I chanted the entire sedrah. However, the sedrah was 'Kedoshim' which is one of the shortest sedrahs. As I recall also the Rabbi made much of the many positive commandments in the sedrah e.g., 'love your neighbor as yourself'. However, I was a bit put off by some of the things in the sedrah e.g., 'don't lie with a man like you would lie with a woman' which I found 'icky' and 'don't pass your son through fire for Moloch' which seemed to me not needed since no one would do that and there was already the 'no gods before me' commandment. I eventually read the rest of the Hebrew bible and found that some of the Kings of Israel and Judah sort of did that (2 Kings 16:3) .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. oy
For some reason these Leagrams were available for people to send to kids for their bar mitzvah or I suppose for other reasons. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. I got about a dozen of these. The one in the image is from the parents of Howard Foreman a friend with who I occasionally email.

Lots of Pictures of Tamar Elizabeth When She Was Little
This is Tamar Elizabeth at birth.
This is Tamar with her grandmother Kathleen Byers Lindsey and great grandmother Nell Byers.
Beth with her father Martin and a horse.
Beth with Martin and Kathleen.
Beth with other kids on North Oxford Street in Springfield, Illinois.
Beth with Ann and Martin - possibly in Naples North Carolina.
.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Beth and Ann at a Doll Museum. Perhaps in Asheville, NC. ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... .
Martin's memories preceding the chronicles, i.e., before 1986. The reason for this blog is to capture old memories that come back to me at seemingly random times. Thus the entries will not be in chronological order. Also, the accuracy of this blog is less than the accuracy in the more contemporaneous blog http://weisschronicles.blogspot.com/
